The role

The purpose of the Imperial Brands leaf training program is to develop suitable candidates over a two year period by providing you with the required:

  • Technical Knowledge
  • Practical Knowledge
  • Commercial / administerial experience.
  • Exposure to supplier and business situations.

This will enable you at the end of the program to possess the sufficient skill and knowledge to progress into a more senior role and provide a positive contribution to the company.  Both the training period and end position can be within any global operation in the world in which the company operates.

Key points of development covered during the training will include but are not limited to:

  • Agronomic principals required for the correct growth, harvesting, curing and preparation of tobacco.
  • Developing an acute understanding of tobacco quality.
  • Tobacco Storage, Processing & Shipping
  • Product Integrity
  • Leaf Procurement and Sustainability

Each candidate will be assigned a mentor whose role is to monitor and assist in your development throughout the training program.  During in-country training, candidates will report to the regional manager in charge. 

Key accountabilities

  • Training in Leaf procurement (focus to support Leaf Manager)
  • Manage blend quality without exceeding budget, perform quality inspections and supervise processing.
  • Perform all purchase system and reporting requirements from the region.
  • Allocate volumes and indicate ITG ‘commitment’ & ‘grade splits’ requirements.
  • Supply agreements/Contracts: Participate in creating agreements/contracts, liaise with Legal department, organise updates and ensure distribution to suppliers. 
  • Point of contact for all supplier / entity / blending / sample room & supply chain issues.
  • Maintain good supplier relationships to ensure preferred partner status.
  • Attend monthly Leaf Purchasing reports/KPI, focus on Working capital. 
  • Work closely with Leaf Sustainability teams, leaf suppliers and our partners within the Sustainable Tobacco Program.
  • Projects: participate in ad hoc projects related to Leaf. 
  • Attend to all internal/external requirements for process audits/reviews, prepare necessary documents/statements (Business quality management, Sustainability Program and Tobacco Compliance, participate in corresponding meetings.)

Skills & experience

Essential

  • University degree Agronomy degree
  • Adaptability and willingness to travel into difficult locales.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel internationally 50%+
  • Driving License 

Desirable

  • Experience in other procurement functions
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite
  • Agricultural background a plus.
  • Multilingual communication skills a plus
